Awash with Great Golf: Greater Dallas Open at The Lakes at Castle Hills Recap

The NTPGA Greater Dallas Open Web.com event took place at The Lakes at Castle Hills June 1-7. While the biggest story was obviously golf - Idaho's Tyler Aldridge posted the second-lowest 72-hole score of the year, a 23-under-par 265, to win the event – almost as much talk centered on the weather preceding the event.

Record-breaking floods hit the DFW area before the event and didn’t spare The Lakes. Photos here show the course under water on May 30, less than 48 hours from tee-off time. According the Avid Golfer, “The Lakes at Castle Hills’ staff did above and beyond the call of duty” getting the course ready for the event, calling it a “monumental effort of adding extra staff, fixing bunkers and cleaning up all the debris.” See the “after” photo here, as well.

The Web.com Tour was another milestone for Bright Realty’ The Lakes at Castle Hills. It has also hosted high-profile events such as the NTPGA Texas State Open and Texas Women’s Open, as well as the Bright Realty Classic benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Bright Realty began an extensive golf course renovation – new greens surfaces, new bunkers and an improved maintenance program - in the summer of 2011, for which it was awarded “Renovation of the Year” by Avid Golfer. The Lakes has also transitioned to a private course and club with a new resort-style pool, upscale and casual dining, a 4,000-square-foot fitness center, tennis facilities, and renovated locker and storage facilities.
